McLeish focusing on the positives

The Blues struggled in front of goal, failing to hit the target in each of their three games, culminating in a 3-0 defeat by Al Hilal on Sunday. However, the Scot still managed to see the positives. "I think we've learned a lot from the tour in terms of looking at one or two systems and I have now got to try and nail something down where it suits the personnel we have," he told the Birmingham Mail. "It's nice to win these games because results breed confidence but we said at the beginning of the tour that it's not so much the scorelines and results, it's mainly about fitness." The goalscoring problem has not been overlooked by the Blues boss but after conceding seven goals on their Austrian tour he insists that defence is his main priority. "The most important thing for me before we start to look at that is that we make sure we don't lose goals, don't concede goals," he added. "Of course we would like to see the goals, and the strikers on the scoresheet. It's good for their confidence. "We've got Christian Benitez to come in and stir things up a wee bit as well and Cameron Jerome missed out because of injury - he's obviously one of the contenders for centre-forward. "I believe that there will be better results ahead, but that's not the be-all and end-all in pre-season."
