Grant welcomes break

First-team coach Peter Grant believes Birmingham's players will reap the benefits of the current international break to recharge their batteries after the current demanding schedule. Blues boss Alex McLeish has been unable to rotate his squad because of a lengthy injury list in the pursuit of Carling Cup and FA Cup glory, alongside the battle for Barclays Premier League survival. Grant feels the two-week break could not have been better timed before City's players resume their fight to stay in the top-flight. "If ever there was a time to hand-pick a break, then this would be the time for us," he said. "You would only have had to seen our training pitch the last couple of months and the lack of numbers to realise why. "We have had a lot of players who have been struggling with (injury) problems and must feel like they have been flogged. "It has definitely been a factor in us not getting some of the results we would have liked. We have probably played more games this last couple of months than most teams with the Carling Cup and FA Cup runs."
