Gold weighing up takeover bids

Gold has made it clear he wants to remain in football after selling his shares in Birmingham to Carson Yeung, and it was long been expected he would launch a takeover bid for West Ham. The 72-year-old was born in Stepney and played youth football for the Hammers but the South London Press claims he is considering options other than the East End outfit. A source told the newspaper: "You could name half a dozen clubs because he has been bombarded with calls already. It's not just his money - people want someone with his experience because he helped get Birmingham into the Premier League on three occasions. "Crystal Palace, Charlton and West Ham are all nearby and each is exciting in their own way and brings different challenges and opportunities."
