en Foster reckons his move from Manchester United to Birmingham will actually be a "big step forward" as he eyes a return to the England fold.[LNB] Foster signed a three-year deal with Blues on Wednesday after leaving the desposed Premier League champions in search of more first-team opportunities.[LNB]Foster, who has won four England caps, spent five years on the books at Old Trafford but failed to oust Edwin van der Sar as number one and has been overlooked by Fabio Capello for this summer's World Cup.[LNB]Foster told Blues TV: "People say I have left Manchester United but I definitely don't see it as a step back.[LNB]"I am really excited and think it is a big step forward for me to be playing first-team football in the Premier League.[LNB]"I love playing football and training is good but for me something needs to be there at the end of the week.[LNB]"I look forward to playing first-team football and that's hopefully what I'll be getting here.[LNB]"As long as things go well for me, and hopefully they will, I'll be knocking on the England door again."[LNB]Foster hopes to fill the void left by Joe Hart, who has returned to Manchester City after an impressive season on loan at St Andrew's.[LNB]Foster, who himself spent two seasons on loan at Watford after first joining United, said: "Joe did absolutely fantastic last season. It was great for him to get out on loan and play in the first team.[LNB]"It is exactly what I need. I have had three years at United in and out of the team, not playing too regularly.[LNB]"It is a fantastic opportunity for me now to play regular football.[LNB]"I'm 27 - in terms of goalkeeping, fairly young. I'd like to think I've got a few years ahead of me yet. It is an exciting time of my career."[LNB]Birmingham enjoyed a fine first season back in the Premier League, following up their promotion with a ninth-placed finish, and Foster has been impressed by Alex McLeish.[LNB]He added: "He told me about his plans for Birmingham and I was impressed by everything he had to say and I was just happy to get the deal done.[LNB]"Before I came here my perception was they are a team on the up, a very hard-working team.[LNB]"You can see from our home record - we only lost twice here last year - any teams coming here that aren't giving 100%, we are going to take for three points."
