Ferguson targets more of the same
arry Ferguson hopes Birmingham can continue their improvement next season after an impressive first campaign back in the Premier League .[LNB] Barring a mathematical miracle, Birmingham are guaranteed a top-10 finish after a solid showing on their return to the top flight.[LNB]And as far as Ferguson is concerned, the Blues have to aim for the same kind of position next season.[LNB]He said: "Hopefully, next season we will kick on again. Everyone deserves a pat on the back the way we've handled ourselves and tried to play.[LNB]"The gaffer [Alex McLeish] has tried to change the system and the way he wants us to play in terms of passing it more and the fans will be happy with what we've achieved.[LNB]"It is not just down to myself. Everyone is trying to do that now and it[LNB]is a good place to be and hopefully we can build on that next year.[LNB]"There is no use turning up if you don't think you can do it and everyone in the dressing room will be the same as me.[LNB]It is no use turning up at your work if you don't think you can be a winner."[LNB]Birmingham's form this season may have stunned those critics who tipped them as relegation fodder, but it has come as no surprise to Ferguson.[LNB]He recognised straight away the quality of players that he would be lining up alongside.[LNB]"When I first signed, if you looked about the dressing room we had a lot of good players and I was confident of doing well," the former Rangers and Blackburn midfielder said.[LNB]"Personally, I couldn't ask for any better. The gaffer gave me a chance to come back down here and I have enjoyed my football.[LNB]"I wasn't enjoying my football last season. I was stale and it is the best thing that could have happened.[LNB]"Sometimes things like that need to happen before you move on and it couldn't have been a better move. I'm happy and smiling.[LNB]"There was a lot of pressure to come here to try and keep us in the Premier League and also try and change the way we play the game.[LNB]"I look on that as a bit of pressure and I put pressure on myself to play to as high a standard as I could and hopefully I've achieved that this season. Now next year I need to do it again.[LNB]"We've set ourselves a challenge now. We've been in the top 10 and we need to do that again next season."
