Edwin van der Sar nears Manchester United return after reserves run-out

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar came through an uneventful 90minutes in the club's reserve-team win over Everton on Tuesday night.

The 38-year-old Dutchman, who has been out of action since breaking his handduring United's pre-season match with Bayern Munich, was on the pitch for theentirety of the 1-0 win.

Van der Sar showed no discomfort during the game, comfortably keeping a cleansheet while Italian striker Federico Macheda scored the decisive goal at theother end.
