Matt Derbyshire could make his Blues debut against former club Blackburn Rovers this weekend. Blues completed the season long loan deal of the 24-year-old striker from Greek side Olypiakos on Monday, much to the delight of manager Alex McLeish, and he could make his Blues bow against his former club at St Andrews on Saturday. “He’s had his journey in Greece and, from speaking to him, he’s so keen to get on that Barclays Premier League pitch once more," McLeish told the Birmingham Mail. “I’m pleased we’ve got him, I’m glad we’ve got another signing over the line. "I think he’s showed he can score a goal, and he’s learnt new tricks abroad, hopefully become a more mature footballer. // '); // ]]> “Maybe in his early days at Blackburn Rovers he was seen more as a super sub. But he never did too badly there back in the day. “Matt’s a very good player and with Kevin Phillips out at the moment I’m sure he’s going to be an asset to us. “He was put into us last year, and even before that. He was someone we were thinking about, but we had committed ourselves to Christian Benitez. “We’ve got a good relationship with his agent and through our chief scout Paul Montgomery, so we had a head’s up. “There were other clubs interested because he is a good player so we’re delighted we managed to get it done. “Matt’s got good mobility, he’s bright, knows where the goal is and is at a good age.”
