Davis: Prem move tempting for Boyd

The midfielder played for Aston Villa and Fulham before joining the Scottish champions and still regards England's top flight as the best league in the world.[LNB]That level of football could soon be available to Boyd, who is out of contract this summer and yet to agree a new deal with Rangers.[LNB]Birmingham boss Alex McLeish - who brought Boyd to Ibrox in 2006 - has confirmed his interest in the 26-year-old and manager Walter Smith says the striker has more than one offer on the table.[LNB]But, as much as he knows how big a temptation the Premier League is, Davis has urged Boyd to pledge his future to the Glasgow giants instead.[LNB]He said: "I can understand the attraction, of course. For me, it's the best league in the world.[LNB]"You are coming up against top quality opposition every week and playing in great stadiums - it's just a great place to play football to be honest.[LNB]"But, at the same time, from our point of view, we want Boydy to stay here.[LNB]"He's a big player for us in terms of the goals he gets for the team. If he does decide to leave, he would be a massive miss.[LNB]"His goalscoring record speaks for itself and there aren't many around who put the ball in the back of the net like Boydy.[LNB]"He would be a great signing for anybody but I hope he stays here as he would be a big loss if he did leave."[LNB]Boyd recently smashed Henrik Larsson's record as the Clydesdale Bank Premier League's all-time top goalscorer and has netted 19 so far this season, albeit he is recovering from hernia surgery at the moment.[LNB]Davis said: "We can't take his goals for granted - he guarantees you at least 20 goals a season and that's a massive thing. There is no-one better that I've seen at putting the ball in the back of the net."[LNB]And, although Rangers boast a nine-point advantage over Celtic ahead of the weekend action, Davis admits the loss of Boyd this month could dent their hopes of retaining the title.[LNB]He said: "It would definitely be a major blow.[LNB]"The squad is quite thin as it is and the manager hasn't had the funds to bring in any players for a long period of time now. I'm sure he would have liked to but hasn't had the chance.[LNB]"We can't afford to have any other players leave. But, if that's the position the club finds itself in, it will just have to be business as usual."[LNB][LNB]
