Blues wait on Diop confirmation

Birmingham are sweating over the availability of Papa Bouba Diop ahead of Saturday's Championship clash against Leicester.

City are sweating after it was revealed the paperwork for his short-term contract has still not been rubber stamped. Blues agreed a one-month deal with the 34-year-old former West Ham midfielder nine days ago but are still waiting for French authorities to process his visa application, with manager Lee Clark admitting he is now touch and go to be involved this weekend. Speaking from the club's training ground on Thursday morning, Clark said:

"We had to release him last Thursday to go over to France to sort out the paperwork, which he still hasn't got completed. So he hasn't been back with us since last Thursday.

"I wanted to use this international break as a time to get some fitness into him but also to put him in the development game on Tuesday to see where he is in terms of match fitness, I couldn't even do that.

"It's nothing from the club's point of view, we're just waiting for the embassy over in Paris to get the paperwork completed. The best case scenario is Bouba will be on the bench, but even that's looking a little bit doubtful now because he has to be registered by noon tomorrow (Friday)." Clark added:

"I don't know what the procedure is in terms of what paperwork has to be dealt with etc. I just know that even though he's played over in this country for a long, long time, every time you move to a new club all the paperwork has to be renewed. The delay is at that end and obviously Bouba's been frustrated."
