Blues' only pre-season home friendly ended with a 1-0 defeat against Real Mallorca. The first 45 minutes of the game at St Andrews ended goalless but Blues did go close to scoring on numerous occasions. Keith Fahey saw his 20-yard effort sail just wide of the post on 29 minutes and on 35 minutes Craig Gardners free kick into the box landed at Garry O'Connor's feet but the Blues striker's shot from four yards out was smothered by Mallorca keeper Dudu Aouate. The closest Blues came to opening the scoring, however, came just five minutes before the break when Roger Johnson's header from Gardner's right wing free-kick hit the crossbar. Alex McLeish made three changes for the start of the second half with Lee Bowyer replacing Fahey, Nikola Zigic replacing O'Connor and David Murphy replacing Scott Dann who had received treatment on an ankle injury just before the end of the first half. Blues started the second half as they had finished the first, attacking well, but they were undone defensively by the Spaniards on 63 minutes. A right wing cross by Casadesus found Emilio Nsue completely unmarked in the Blues penalty area and the Mallorca midfielder beat Ben Foster with ease from seven yards out. Substitute James McFadden twice went close to equalising for Blues with shots from just outside the penalty box whilst Enrique Valles saw his left footed effort from ten yards out well blocked by Aouate.
