Lingard ready for Blues bow

New signing Jesse Lingard comes into contention for his Birmingham debut at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

The highly-rated versatile midfielder arrived on a month-long loan deal from Manchester United on Thursday and is set to go straight into Lee Clark's struggling side to face the Owls.

Captain Paul Robinson returns after missing Tuesday's 3-0 defeat at Burnley through suspension, while long-term absentee David Murphy and Akwasi Asante are also back in the fold.

Striker Lee Novak (knee) is a doubt while the game comes just too soon for Nikola Zigic as he increases his match fitness after a lengthy back problem.

Roger Johnson is hoping to overcome an arm injury in time to make his debut for Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Wycombe, Cardiff and Birmingham defender, who joined from Wolves on a three-month loan deal last week, fell awkwardly in training on Thursday and will be assessed, but is expected to be in contention.

Captain Anthony Gardner remains sidelined with a long-term Achilles injury, but fellow defender Lewis Buxton could return to the starting line-up after recovering from a hamstring strain.

Manager Dave Jones, whose side are chasing their first win of the season, has no other injury concerns, while wingers Jermaine Johnson and Jacques Maghoma, plus midfielder Jose Semedo, are all pushing for recalls.
