Birmingham striker O'Connor sidelined for several months with hip injury

Birmingham striker Garry O'Connor is facing several months on the sidelines and is set to undergo hip surgery.[LNB]The Scotland international has been restricted to only six starts during the current campaign, the last of which was against Burnley in early October. [LNB]It leaves Blues short of attacking options as back-up to the current front two of Cameron Jerome and Christian Benitez.[LNB] Long spell on the sidelines: Birmingham City's Garry O'Connor (left) has a hip injury[LNB]Birmingham manager Alex McLeish confirmed: 'We have received some disappointing news about Garry. He is likely to need an operation on his hip.[LNB]'It could keep him out for several months and leaves our striking options light.'[LNB] City's on-loan midfielder Teemu Tainio is also facing a spell out of action with a knee problem which could require surgery.[LNB]The Sunderland player has made only five starts for Blues.[LNB]McLeish admitted: 'Teemu is another player who may need surgery as his knee problem has flared up again.
