Controversial Birmingham City striker Marlon King has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, British police revealed on Saturday.

The 33-year-old was detained following a three-car accident in Nottinghamshire, central England, on Friday that left one man with serious injuries. King was later released on police bail, pending further enquiries.

A spokesman for second-tier club Birmingham said: "We are aware of a road traffic accident involving our player and the matter is now being investigated by the police."

King underwent knee surgery last month, ruling him out for the rest of the season.

The former Wigan Athletic, Middlesbrough and Watford striker has had several brushes with the law during his career.

He notably served nine months of an 18-month prison sentence for sexual assault and actual bodily harm after attacking a woman in a London nightclub in December 2008.
