Second City boy? Mphela is keen on a move to the Blues

Birmingham City have made checks on South Africa international striker Katlego Mphela.

The 25-year-old plays in South Africa for Mamelodi Sundowns and was the top scorer last season with 17 goals.

He said: 'They've made contact with my agent, they've sent some proposals and I think things are getting there.

'Birmingham are a very decent team, they play well and I think it will suit my style of play if I go there.'

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish, who has agreed a deal for goalkeeper Ben Foster from Manchester United, is weighing up several strikers though.

He has also made inquiries about Fulham's Bobby Zamora and West Ham United's £10m-rated Carlton Cole while talks with Rangers Kris Boyd are on-going.
