Belgian Pro League review - Mouscron vs Waasland-Beveren

07 August 2014 12:44

After the first match last week, both Mouscron and Beveren were left behind without a single goal or a single point, and both were eager to leave their opponents behind at the bottom of the table.

Mouscron took control from the start, building up nicely, looking for the opening. Waasland restricted their play to defending the nill, and did a good job in that respect, at least until a couple minutes before the break, when Langil dribbled the Beveren defence, passed it through to Diaby, who slotted it home past Coosemans.

Waasland-Beveren were being pushed back by the home side, only threatening from a corner. Coosemans kept his team in the running with a few good saves, keeping hope alive for the second half.

The equalizer was just out of reach of Blondelle, heading the ball over the bar. Waasland found their stride and started playing along with Mouscron, but fell short in the final metres. Mouscron took advantage of the space left by Waasland, with Diaby nearly punishing the away-team for their attacks.

Going into the final minutes, Mouscron controlled the match, but were nearly surprised by Ibou, who shot it just wide of the post. Mouscron kept their first points home, leaving Westerlo behind with nothing.
