Football: Bilic named as new Beskitas coach

Former Croatia manager Slaven Bilic was on Wednesday named as the new coach of Turkish side Besiktas, the club announced on its website.

The 44-year-old - who was part of the Crotia side that reached the 1998 World Cup semi-finals - signed a three year deal worth 4.8 million euros ($6.2 million).

Bilic takes over the reins at the Turkish side after spells with Hajduk Split, Croatia, and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Bilic, who guided Croatia to two successive Euro finals in 2008 - where they reached the quarter-finals - and 2012, takes over a club reeling after UEFA on Tuesday had barred them from the Europa League next season because of a domestic match fixing scandal dating back to the 2010/11 season.
