Dick Campbell endures debut to forget as Berwick beat Arbroath

Dick Campbell's reign as Arbroath boss got off to a losing start as Berwick moved six points clear of bottom club East Stirling with a 3-0 win.

Arbroath got off to the worst possible start when an Alex Cunningham shot deflected into the path of Berwick striker Blair Henderson and he scored with a neat half-volley in the fourth minute.

Arbroath responded well and were unlucky not to be level when a header from Greg Rutherford was pushed over the crossbar by Kevin Walker.

Berwick's Darren Lavery was denied by the legs of Allan Fleming while, at the other end, Mark Williams should have done better with a free header.

Robert Wilson's superb block denied Rutherford an equaliser just before the break, and just after it Henderson grabbed his second goal of the night, rounding the keeper and slotting home from a tight angle.

It was 3-0 on the hour when Lavery played the ball wide to Graeme Beveridge and continued his run to head in the full-back's cross.

Lavery was denied a fourth in stoppage time but it mattered little.
