Nicholson spot kick downs Berwick

A late penalty by Mark Nicolson for Elgin gave them a valuable 3-2 win over Berwick Rangers.

The visitors' Craig Gunn opened the scoring with a penalty to fire home his 15th goal of the season and Lee Currie levelled the sides before the break as he got on the end of a ball from Darren Lavery.

The visitors started the second-half fast, as Gunn turned provider and Dennis Wyness headed home to give his side a 2-1 lead.

Rangers cancelled out Wyness' goal as John Fairburn drew the home side level with a fine finish in the six-yard box. Fairburn then denied a goal at the other end as Shane Sutherland's effort was blocked by the defender.

With five minutes remaining, Berwick's Michael Andrews fouled Sutherland in the box and Nicolson rifled the resulting penalty into the top corner to give Barry Wilson's side a victory to go four points behind eighth-placed Montrose with a game in-hand.
