Henderson at the double

Blair Henderson's double gave Berwick a 2-1 victory over Montrose on the opening day of the Ladbrokes Scottish League 2 season.

The home side will be hoping to improve on last season's eighth-placed finish and they made a good start. They were ahead after 12 minutes, when Henderson got in front of his marker to latch onto Finn Graham's cross, before coolly converting past Ross Salmon.

Paul Watson restored parity for Montrose just eight minutes later, firing home from the penalty spot after Scott Johnston was fouled.

Ewan McNeil's pinpoint cross in the second half allowed Henderson to head Rangers back into the lead and Montrose's Ross Salmon made a tremendous stop to prevent Graham from adding a third with a glancing header.

Paul Watson squandered a good chance to level the visitors five minutes from time and the Wee Gers' David Morris sent a shot over the bar deep into stoppage time as his side saw out the win.
