Winless streak ends for Wee Gers

Berwick secured their first league win in eight with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Albion at Shielfield Park.

First-half goals from Damien Gielty and Lee Currie saw Ian Little's men leapfrog their opponents in the table despite conceding a Michael Dunlop own-goal.

The Black & Gold wasted no time in stamping their authority on the game when Gielty met Currie's corner and rifled the ball beyond Neil Parry from close range.

The hosts had an opportunity for a second just before the break when Scott Mercer hauled down Ross Gray inside the area and referee Colin Steven pointed to the spot.

Currie took charge and saw his initial effort from 12 yards saved but the midfielder was on hand to head the rebound beyond Parry.

Despite gifting Albion a second-half lifeline when Dunlop put through his own net, Berwick held on for a valuable three points.
