Forfar bounce back in style

Scottish League Two leaders Forfar bounced back from last weekend's 1-0 defeat against Montrose with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Clyde at Station Park.

Danny Denholm put the hosts in front as he headed home from Jim Lister's assist midway through the first half, while Christopher McLaughlin set up David Cox for another headed goal seven minutes after the break to doubled Forfar's lead.

Thomas O'Brien made it three goals from three headers after 79 minutes as he nodded Gavin Swankie's cross over the line to show why the Loons have been a dominant force this season and leave their opponents in eighth, but just three points above the relegation spot with two matches remaining.

Arbroath edged a 2-1 victory over bottom side Cowdenbeath at Central Park to strengthen their hold on second and remain just a point behind the leaders.

High-flying Arbroath took the lead midway through the first half as Ryan McCord's well-worked free-kick set up Steven Doris for his 12th league goal of the season.

Former Alloa midfielder McCord doubled their tally three minutes into the second half as he picked out the bottom corner, while the home side pulled one back through Scott Rumsby's close-range header midway though the second-half.

Montrose moved into the final play-off spot thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory over lowly Berwick at Shielfield Park.

The Gable Endies took the lead through Chris Templeman after 38 minutes and that opener proved enough to clinch maximum points to move them into fourth, but left the hosts just three points off the drop and level on points with Clyde.

Edinburgh City claimed a 2-0 victory over play-off hopefuls Annan at Meadowbank Stadium in a match which saw both sides reduced to 10 men at the death.

The hosts took the lead on the brink of half-time as Craig Beattie found the bottom-right corner after picking up Lewis Allan's cross, while the roles were reversed just before the hour mark as Allan fired home from the centre of the box to make two.

But tempers flared in second-half added-time as Annan's Darren Ramsay was shown a straight red card for serious foul play moments before Chris McKee was shown his second caution to leave the home side short for the final exchanges.

Elsewhere, Elgin claimed a hard-fought point in their play-off push after going 2-0 down to record a 2-2 draw against Stirling at Borough Briggs.

Darren L Smith netted his sixth goal from his last seven games to give the away side a 58th-minute lead and he set up Dylan Bikey for the second four minutes later.

Elgin pulled one back as Jamie Reid tapped into the bottom corner with a little over 20 minutes remaining and Archie MacPhee claimed their equaliser late on to clinch a share of the spoils.
