Portuguese international Yannick Djalo has signed for Benfica after his failed transfer last summer from Sporting Lisbon and French club Nice, his new club announced on Tuesday.

"Benfica have reached an agreement with striker Yannick Djalo who has signed a contract which is valid for four and a half seasons, or until the end of the 2015/2016 season," Benfica said in a statement.

The 25-year-old of Guinea-Bissauan origin has been without a club since the beginning of the season after FIFA refused to ratify his transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Nice as it was not completed before the transfer deadline on August 31.

Benfica have a five-point lead on FC Porto at the top of the Portuguese league and will play Zenit St-Petersburg in the last 16 of the Champions League.
