Benfica Coach Rui Vitoria Focused On Astana Clash

Benfica are trying to put all of their attention on their Champions League Group C opener against tournament debutants Astana in Lisbon and not Sunday's Primeira Liga showdown with league leaders FC Porto.

There is a huge buzz in the country ahead the top-of-the-table clash with Porto but Benfica coach Rui Vitoria is not looking further ahead than Tuesday.

"We have been preparing for the game against Astana," Vitoria said to Abola.pt. "We are concentrated on that game and starting the Champions League group stages on the right foot.

"We are ambitious and we want to build our confidence. Once that game is over, we will think about our next opponents."

The Portuguese champions warmed up for their Champions League encounter with a 6-0 home triumph over Belenenses on Friday.

Fulham's on-loan forward Kostas Mitroglou and Nicolas Gaitan scored twice to lift Benfica to second place in the Primeira Liga, one point adrift of Porto four games into the season.

"It's about time we gave such an exhibition and got a result like this one," Vitoria said. "My players have worked well.

"I'm satisfied with the performance because I saw everything that a coach likes to see.

"Now we expect a different game against Astana."

The Aguias, in the group stages for the sixth straight year but first under Vitoria, had a poor start to the competition last season.

They lost 2-0 at home to Zenit in their group opener and finished bottom of their pool with five points from six games.

Astana, a club only founded six years ago, became the first Kazakh side to reach the group stages after winning 2-1 on aggregate over APOEL in last month's play-off round.

"We're still not ready to play at this level but you can achieve anything when you have a dream," coach Stanimir Stoilov said.

"We will enjoy the experience and we are certainly looking forward to it."

The Kazakh team will also take on 2014 runners-up Atletico Madrid and Turkish giants Galatasaray in Group C.

"We'll try to do our best," Stoilo said. "I think we can get some points but it will be difficult."

Astana go into the match riding a four-game winning streak in their domestic competition.

Friday's 3-2 win at Ordabasy kept Astana second in the Kazakh Premier League, one point adrift of leaders Kairat Almaty.

The visitors will be without forward Patrick Twumasi, who will miss Tuesday's encounter through suspension.

Benfica, meanwhile, have no injury concerns.
