Benfica coach Jorge Jesus has been suspended for a month and fined 5,355 euros for getting involved in an altercation between a police officer and a fan following a match in September, the Portuguese football league announced on Tuesday.

The ban only applies to domestic matches meaning he will miss the club's next four league games as Benfica lie third in the standings, level on points with Sporting Lisbon and three points behind FC Porto.

Jesus will however be present for the final two Group C games in the Champions League against Anderlecht on November 27 and Paris Saint-Germain on December 10.

Jesus has already been charged by the Portuguese justice system for "impeding police work" during incidents on September 22 after a match against league rivals Vitoria Guimaraes.
