16 March 2014 10:10

Belgium currently have one of the most exciting and star-studded teams in international football achieving their highest ever FIFA ranking of 5th in October 2013. Managed by Marc Wilmots, himself a former player from the end of Belgium’s last ‘Golden’ period with perhaps their greatest achievement being finishing 4th in 1986 World Cup.

The current squad contains well-known names such as Mirallas, Benteke,Lukaku, Fellaini, Dembele, Du Bruyne, Hazard, Kompany, Vermaelon, Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Courtois and will certainly be tournament dark-horses in 2014.

Belgium qualified unbeaten for the 2014 World Cup with an impressive eight wins and just two draws with only four goals conceded in ten games. Belgium failed to qualify in 2010 and 2006.

Belgium are one of just a few European teams to attend the first World Cup held in Uruguay in 1930 where they lost both of their matches.
