FINAL SCORE: Norway 3 x 11 Portugal
The Defending Champions offered a stunning statement of intent punishing Norway 11-3 at the Butlins National Stadium. The last match of day 1 proved a one-side affair in which triples by Jose Maria and King Madjer, doubles by Alan and Belchior, and an incredible strike by Sousa led the Lusitanians to a comfortable victory over Norway and pole position in the Division A pool.

Quote Jose Miguel Mateus (Portugal Coach)
“We wanted the first match to be a confidence-booster and that's how it's worked out. Our defenders concentrated hard, we were always looking to get forward, we used the space we were allowed, we pulled the Norway defence this way and that, and we've scored 11 goals, so I'm totally satisfied. Our rivals will have noticed that we're in good shape, but Switzerland will be much tougher opponents”
