England announce new Head Coach and coaching team

England beach soccer are delighted to announce the appointment of a new coaching set up with immediate effect. Jamie O'Rourke who has had a hugely successful playing career with England, heads up a new coaching team that includes Brazilian Luigui Olivera. New gaffer O'Rourke said "I'm obviously delighted and honored to be appointed head coach of the national team and I am hoping the team can enter a successful period under my leadership. In order for this to happen there has to be radical changes to the way we operate and a structure put in place to help us develop as a team and as a sport in this country. Former head coach Luke Kerrs appointment as head of development is crucial in the sports future in this country as his love and drive for the sport is unrivalled". "We truly must draw a line under the past and start from scratch. We must stretch out and find more players from around the country with the ability to compete with the power houses of the beach soccer world, which in turn will increase the popularity of this sport country wide. My immediate plan is to recruit new players to combine with the talent we already have through a national team trials day, which I am hoping can be arranged very soon as I look in preparation for the 2009 Beach Soccer season. From this I would like to find a nucleus of a squad to work hard with over the winter months so that we can be better prepared than ever before". 2008 proved a hugely successful year for the development of beach soccer in England, and the first ever televised NUTS TV national tour took beach soccer to new locations and attracted a whole new audience and huge amounts of interested players, however England really struggled on the International stage while trying to compete with their better funded and assisted European counterparts. Luke Kerr who recognised the urgent need to develop the national scenes in order for the sport of beach soccer to truly develop in England steps away from the International head coach role, to ensure there are clear pathways into beach soccer in England as the new Head of development. John Hawkins EBS Chief Executive said "We are so lucky to have somebody of Jamie calibre to pick up the reins of the national team and take us into a new era, I am certain that Jamie will bring the same level of professionalism, creativity and success to the national team as head coach that he did as a player". I have also been a great admirer of Luigui since I first saw him play the game some years ago, and having his technical knowledge and new outlook on board is going to be of huge benefit to England". John continued "Having Luke heading up the sports development while Jamie and Luigui look after International team matters, really is a dream ticket, we have to box clever to compete with the funds pouring into other teams worldwide but I feel the appointment of this new team gives us the best possible chance".
