Bayern Munich head coach Louis van Gaal was relatively pleased after seeing his side start the new season with a 2-0 defeat of Schalke in the German Super Cup.
Second-half goals from Thomas Muller and Miroslav Klose gave last season's double winners some more silverware, with van Gaal aiming for further improvements when the league season gets underway.
The Dutchman said after his side's latest success: "I think that we are a bit further ahead than we were at this time last year.
"The players have understood what we want and everybody knows what they have to do, but we can still improve as individuals and take another step forwards.
"We still must improve from game to game."
