New Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal says he wants to reduce the size of the squad he has inherited at the Allianz Arena.
Van Gaal has added the likes of Mario Gomez, Daniel Pranjic and Anatoliy Tymoshchuk to the Bayern ranks this summer and the first-team squad has ballooned to 27 players.
"It's not good," said the Dutch coach. "As I've already said, I always work with 22 established players and three younger players.
"It's very important that the players feel they have a real prospect of playing. In a large squad that won't be the case for a number of players.
"That's not good for their motivation and I believe it's important to be motivated all the time, in training and in matches."
