Van Gaal backed by Bayern

Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal has received the backing of club president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge after criticising his players in the wake of the recent 3-1 win against Wolfsburg.

Van Gaal accused his team of showing arrogance after they secured their eighth successive win and Rummenigge agrees that the squad should remain grounded.

Speaking to the club's official website, Rummenigge said: "I thought his comments were right and terrific.

"After winning eight in a row, you tend to get sloppy. Voices were raised, but the players knew at once what the coach was on about.

"Let's not forget we've only played four games since the winter break and the intense phase is only just upon us."
