Summer signing Anatoliy Tymoshchuk faces a fight to secure a regular starting spot with Bayern Munich. Coach Louis Van Gaal has appointed Mark van Bommel as club captain for the coming campaign, meaning that Ukraine international Tymoshchuk is not guaranteed a central midfield role. Van Gaal said: "He cannot play in his best position in our system, that is where Van Bommel plays. "He could play on the right, but I have chosen Hamit Altintop for there. Every player is compared to his rivals and the coach makes the decisions." Tymoshchuk moved to Germany from Russian club Zenit St Petersburg, having previously made his name in his homeland with Shakhtar Donetsk.
