Toni agent plays down link

The agent of Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni has played down rumours linking his client with a return to Italy to join Roma in the January transfer window.

The 32-year-old wants out of Bayern after falling out of favour with head coach Louis van Gaal, but agent Tulio Tinti insists that talk of a move to the Eternal City are premature.

He told LaRoma24.it: "Luca Toni and Roma? I have not had any contact from Roma directors, therefore there has not been any basis regarding a deal.

"At the moment there is nothing new with Toni's situation."

Toni himself had earlier told Rai 2: "The situation with van Gaal? For the club I am a point of reference, while he prefers other types of players.

"Luckily for me, the market opens in a little while. I will talk to the club because I do not like this situation. In Italy there are two or three teams that I like."
