Bayern Munich's executive chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has played down talk of his club being prepared to sell star midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The 26-year-old Germany international is out of contract at the end of next season and Bayern head coach Louis van Gaal had earlier suggested that the club should consider a sale.
However, Rummenigge commented: "I have always said that we really want to extend Bastian's contract and that is what we are working on.
"He is one of our most important players, if not the most important one.
"But if a contract extension does not happen then he will certainly stay at Bayern until June 30, 2012. He will not leave before that date.
"Van Gaal cannot decide that. In this case I will have the final say."
