Ribery steps up comeback push

Franck Ribery has declared himself fit enough to return to action in Bayern Munich's upcoming Bundesliga game against Mainz.

The France star has been sidelined since undergoing surgery on a toe problem during the club's winter break training camp in Dubai.

Ribery has also been recovering from a knee problem which has curtailed his involvement during the first half of the season.

But after playing 60 minutes of a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday, Ribery believes he is ready to resume first-team action against Mainz at the weekend.

"It was a good test for me. There's been no reaction from the knee, which is the really important thing," he told the club's official website.

"I'm working hard towards a quick return, but I'm not 100 per cent fit yet. I need the competitive practice now.

"Playing today has done me good. I hope to be part of the starting XI again when we face Mainz. I think I can last for at least 45 minutes."
