Ribery sent for groin surgery

Franck Ribery could miss the start of the domestic season with Bayern Munich after undergoing surgery on a groin problem.

Ribery travelled to Germany for surgery immediately after returning to Paris following France's disappointing departure from the World Cup.

The 27-year-old winger played in all three games of Les Bleus' group-stage exit in South Africa with no obvious signs of carrying an injury.

Bayern have refused to discuss timescales for Ribery's return but hope that the injury does not prove as problematic as knee and foot issues which dogged his last campaign.
