France international Franck Ribery believes he is the natural successor to the legendary Zinedine Zidane.
The Bayern Munich midfielder has won 25 caps and scored three goals for Les Bleus since making his debut in May 2006 and is regarded as the main creative influence in coach Raymond Domenech's squad.
"It's true that I am his successor, due to my game, my positioning and my qualities," said Ribery.
"When Zizou was playing I was often with him. He always told me to keep going, that he was happy with me and plenty of other nice comments which I still receive now."
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old has paid tribute to Domenech, who he has credited for his recent impressive international form.
"I enjoy having a coach who is close to the players," he added. "When I go to the French side I feel a lot better than before, both on the pitch and off it.
"I have more responsibilities. You could say I'm one of the leaders."
