Ribery expects Bayern to buy

France international Franck Ribery believes Bayern Munich need to strengthen their squad next month if they are to challenge for honours in the second half of the season.

After making a slow start to the campaign, Jurgen Klinsmann's side have put together a ten-match unbeaten run to move up to second in the Bundesliga and have already qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League.

Ribery is keen to keep the momentum going, telling L'Equipe: "I feel fine at Bayern, it is a great club. Die Bundesliga has less media coverage than other leagues like Spain or England.

"What would be important is to have a bigger squad. The officials are trying to get big players.

"What could help me to stay in the future is to see great players coming and see that we would have the means to win the Champions League.

"Nowadays, I believe clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea or Barcelona have more chances to win the competition.

"I have already said, if I could choose, I would immediately sign (Lyon midfielder) Jeremy Toulalan. In Ligue 1 there are some players that could help us.

"The officials want to make a lot of changes in the team, hiring big names, because we need it."
