Ribery back on Bayern sidelines

Franck Ribery has been forced to miss the opening days of Bayern Munich's winter training camp in Dubai following toe surgery.

The France star has managed only six Bundesliga appearances during an injury-plagued opening half of the season and now finds himself back on the sidelines.

"It is practically incredible and very bitter for the coach and the team," coach Louis van Gaal told the club's official website.

"But we cannot change it. We hope that the medical department works hard and he returns as quickly as possible."

Ribery required surgery to release a pressure build-up under both of his big toenails after reporting discomfort following the weekend flight to Abu Dhabi.
