Bayern Munich goalkeeper Michael Rensing has admitted that he was relieved not to have played a part in the embarrassing Champions League defeat to Barcelona.
Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann preferred to start with the more experienced Hans-Jorg Butt in goal, but he promptly let in four first-half goals as Barca romped to an easy victory in the quarter-final first leg encounter.
"In hindsight, I can be relieved that I was not in goal," Rensing said.
"We were fortunate that Barcelona did not want any more goals, otherwise they could have gone into double figures.
"Klinsmann came to me in my room at mid-day to tell me that Butt would be in goal due to his experience. I have got to accept the decision and assume I will play on Saturday.
"Given what the coach has said, it was only a one-off. Overall, he is happy with my development. I am not worried about my future. It is not as if I have thrown the ball in the back of the net in recent weeks. In fact, I have actually played well."
