Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes Bayern Munich have turned the corner following a disappointing start to the season.

Bayern thrashed Borussia Dortmund 5-1 on Saturday to secure their second win of the Bundesliga season and silence the critics who had turned on new coach Louis van Gaal after the title favourites picked up just two points from the first nine on offer.

"The match straight after having practically the whole team away on international duty in midweek is always a difficult one," said Rummenigge.

"In the circumstances, the team played really well and with unbelievable energy in the second half. We're extremely satisfied."

Van Gaal added: "We made a very poor start. We didn't touch the ball in the first 15 minutes.

"After half-time, the individual quality in my team made the difference.

"After such a difficult week, I'm delighted we scored some decent goals."
