Defender Christian Lell is content to return to the game after being given a three-month break by Bayern Munich last season.
The 25-year-old suffered due to a lack of first-team opportunities and off-field problems last term and hopes for better times next season.
He told Bild: "My situation changed overnight when Louis Van Gaal arrived.
"One week before the closure of the transfer window, in the summer of 2009, it was made clear to me that I should leave the club.
"I had no chance of playing any matches. In the end, I just could not cope with this situation and then there were a few private issues in addition to that.
"Luca Toni, Breno, Andreas Ottl, Alexander Baumjohann and Edson Braafheid all left before the start of the second half of the season and I thought to myself: if somebody gets injured now, then maybe I will actually get a chance.
"Eventually I just needed to distance myself from football. The club accommodated my wishes and I needed a long time out.
"I still have a year left to run on my contract with Bayern. But, if nothing changes regarding my sporting situation in pre-season, then of course I will look at my alternatives."
