Bayern Munich defender Philipp Lahm seems set to leave the club next summer after negotiations over a new contract came to an unsuccessful conclusion.
The 24-year-old left-back has been linked with several top clubs in Spain and Italy and appears to have decided that his future lies away from Bayern.
A statement on the club's official website: "Talks between Bayern and Philipp Lahm over the extension of his contract which expires on June 30, 2009 have been inconclusive.
"As a result, Bayern have withdrawn the offer of a contract extension."
Lahm himself later told Stern: "I've played for two years with Stuttgart and I'm finishing my third year at Bayern, the top German club, so the logical progression is to go abroad.
"There are in Europe a handful of clubs who have a financial power superior to that of Bayern. Their teams play with more rhythm and assurance than Bayern."
