Lahm demands worry Bayern
25 Apr 2008 - 07:10:03
Bayern Munich president Franz Beckenbauer claims that contract talks with Germany full-back Philipp Lahm broke down over the player's wage demands.
The 24-year-old now looks set to leave the Bundesliga leaders at the end of the season, with a number of clubs in Spain and Italy believed to be interested in his services.
Beckenbauer told German TV: "Lahm's demands were a little too high in the eyes of our board of directors.
"Of course you can make demands and hope to get something, but whether you do get it is another question.
"It does not have to be that he leaves us now, his contract still runs until 2009. I don't think the last word has been spoken yet.
"He fits in well here and has proven that he is a world-class player and it would be great if he stays.
"But, on the other hand, you cannot change a player's mind when he has a huge offer and decides to move abroad.
"I think he will play for us another year and then leave to join a club like Barcelona or Manchester United."
