Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has revealed his surprise at finding himself out of the starting line-up at the Allianz Arena.
The big-money summer signing from Stuttgart scored three goals in his first five appearances, but has been left on the bench for the last three Bundesliga fixtures.
"I've felt very happy at Bayern from the start. Had I not scored, I could have understood the decision," he told Bild.
"No one expected it, not me either. To digest and understand that was very difficult. I was thinking so many things at once."
However, the Germany striker has denied reports which claim he has fallen out with coach Louis van Gaal.
"It has always been suggested that we had a problem. I can only say we have no problem," he said. "He is unique. I have never had such a coach.
"The coach called me into his office before his decision. He said to me how he saw my situation and what he dislikes. And then he took me out of the team. Done."
