Bayern Munich continue to be interested in signing Landon Donovan on a permanent basis.
The USA international is on loan at the Allianz Arena from LA Galaxy until March 15, but is keen to make the deal permanent.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is keeping his options open though, telling the tz newspaper, "Landon Donovan is a good player and certainly interesting.
"But when your club already has Miroslav Klose, Luca Toni and is also getting Ivica Olic, we are thinking that our fourth striker should be a talented youngster."
However, coach Jurgen Klinsmann is more upbeat about a deal being finalised, saying: "I haven't given up on Landon yet.
"It's up to him to take the chances we've allowed him to pursue. He has the potential to succeed and we're keen to make sure he does."
