Bayerns Thiago on recovery road after op
Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara can finally begin his rehab training after undergoing an operation to remove a screw from his right ankle, his club Bayern Munich confirmed on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old tore ankle ligaments six weeks ago on his second Bundesliga appearance for Bayern since joining from Barcelona.
Bayern have not said when Thiago can expect to return to action for the European champions, but he is not expected to start running for at least another fortnight.
"Thiago is getting better, we are exactly on plan," said Bayern's team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt.
"With the screw removed, he can now fully step on the ankle and we can begin to build muscle."
Having captained Spain to the European Under-21 title, having scored a hat-trick in the final, Thiago, whose agent is Pep Guardiola's brother Pere, joined Bayern in July for 22 million euros ($29.72 million).
