Bayern to hand van Gaal new deal

Bayern Munich boss Louis van Gaal is expected to be rewarded with a new contract after guiding the Bundesliga giants to a fine run of form.

After making a stuttering start to the campaign, the Bavarians have won their last 13 games in all competitions.

They scraped to a controversial 2-1 win against Fiorentina in their Champions League last-16 first-leg clash in midweek to continue their stunning recent record.

Van Gaal's contract is due to expire in the summer of 2011 and chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has suggested he will be rewarded.

Speaking to Deutsches Sport-Fernsehen, Rummenigge said: "We are keen on having stability and when this form of continuity means successful work with manager Louis van Gaal then there will be nothing standing in his way.

"So June 2011 will then not be the end of the flagpole. It is a fact that the manager and the squad have made an adaptation and have pushed each to their current level now."
