Bayern to extend Robbens contract - report

Published: 15 Dec 2011 - 20:46:52

Bayern Munich are to offer Dutch winger Arjen Robben a contract extension that would keep him at the Bundesliga giants beyond 2013, it was reported Thursday.

Coach Jupp Heynckes told German football magazine Kicker: "We're under no pressure to open talks with Arjen, but for us there's no doubt: he will stay with us beyond 2013 because we need a player of his calibre."

The news could be welcomed by Robben after a horrendous start to the season which has seen him limited to just a few matches due to a troublesome pelvic injury.

Despite scoring twice from the spot in a recent 4-1 rout of Werder Bremen, Robben -- who underwent surgery in October -- admitted last week he was still struggling.

The Dutchman's propensity for injury has also nourished some of Bayern's less forgiving fans, but Heynckes has rubbished suggestions the club could offload him.

He added: "We want to keep on working with Arjen because he's the kind of player who can make a difference."

Bayern will aim to conserve their lead of the Bundesliga when they host Cologne Friday in what will be the Bavarians' final league match before the winter break.
