Bayern swoop for Braafheid

Bayern Munich have continued their summer recruitment drive by snapping up the highly-rated FC Twente left-back Edson Braafheid.

New Bayern boss Louis van Gaal has already agreed deals to bring Mario Gomez, Anatoli Tymoschuk, Danijel Pranjic, Alexander Baumjohann and Ivica Olic to the Allianz Arena this summer and Braafheid will be his sixth signing.

The 26-year-old former Utrecht player will sign a four-year deal with Bayern, who have beaten off competition from Schalke, Tottenham Hotspur, PSV Eindhoven and Ajax to land the left-back.

The Surinam-born player was a regular in Steve McClaren's starting line-up last season as Twente finished second in the Dutch Eredivisie, 11 points behind an AK Alkmaar team that was coached to the title by van Gaal.
