Bayern seal van Gaal arrival
14 May 2009 - 06:54:59
Bayern Munich have confirmed that Louis van Gaal has signed a two-year contract to take charge of the German giants in the summer.
The 57-year-old Dutchman has just guided AZ Alkmaar to only their second-ever league title, but has decided to try his luck in the Bundesliga next term.
Van Gaal was still under contract at AZ for another season, but the Alkmaar hierarchy have agreed a deal to allow their man to move on straight away.
Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge commented: "We're delighted to be bringing in Louis van Gaal, a very experienced and successful coach, to FC Bayern Munich."
Rummenigge had previously admitted that a deal hinged on van Gaal reaching an agreement with AZ, having stated: "There is a contractual relationship between Van Gaal and AZ which is in force until June 30, 2010.
"Therefore Louis van Gaal has to now try to get out of this contractual relationship.
"We know of an agreement between him and president Dirk Scheringa that allows him to get out of his contract when he wins an important title. Now we will simply wait.
"In our talk Louis van Gaal put extra worth on the fact that he would sort out the problem, not Bayern."
